WHAT IS MRSA?
MRSA stands for methicillin resistant Staph aureus. In simple terms it is a staph infection. MRSA is a bacteria found all over the skin of the human body. The bacteria lives on the body, not causing any problems. It can cause problems when a bug bite, scratch, or anything that breaks the skin takes place. It is possible once the skin is broken for MRSA or the bacteria to seep into the wound and cause an infection.
What is so special about MRSA? MRSA is considered to be a "SUPER BUG". A super bug is a bug that becomes immune to antibiotics. The name MRSA (Methicillin RESISTANT Staph Aureus) contains the word methicillin which is a simple antibiotic. The following word in the acronym is RESISTANT. The word RESISITANT is key and asks the question, how do you kill MRSA?
MRSA Prevention & How To Kill MRSA
The best way to promote MRSA infection control is to kill MRSA bacteria. Ensure your MRSA prevention protocol includes disinfecting for MRSA on surface areas and hands.
Wash your hands frequently! Using a cleanser specialized for MRSA prevention and MRSA infection control is your best bet. Look for products that are EPA approved. EPA sanitizers and disinfectants are your best source for what kills MRSA.
MRSA lives on surfaces. Hospitals, daycare centers, schools, gyms, etc. are breeding grounds for MRSA. An EPA surface disinfectant will kill the MRSA bacteria.
Creating a protocol in your home, office, school, hospital, with MRSA disinfecting in mind is your best defense. Address all areas. What surfaces comes in contact with the human body? Disinfect those areas regularly for optimum MRSA infection control.
Who Is At Risk?
Exposure to certain environments can make you more suceptible to contracting the MRSA bacteria such as: Current or recent hospital stays, residing in a nursing home, people who have been catheterized, have a feeding tube, recent antibiotic use, having a weakened immune system, living and working in unsanitary conditions.
Remember, if many people use a certain surface (think gyms, tables, etc.) chances are the MRSA bacteria is alive and well. Protect yourself and your family by practicing excellent MRSA prevention techniques. Invest in cleansers and sanitizers that kill the MRSA bacteria. MRSA disinfecting is your best line of defense!
